I remember you, Meg! I am super happy you are digging your new Goat of Mendes!
I agree that you should wear it and enjoy it and don’t let anyone make you feel inadequate when they make their funny comments or ask condescending poorly worded questions...”They”, in general, don’t know any better. And you are on your way to finding out all the cool stuff about the goat yourself!
Here are few tantalizing tidbits about our beloved Baphomet I can share with you:
He sits on top a block which represents a solid foundation. The block is situation on the top of the globe signifying that half the world is still in darkness.
The face and horns represents man’s animal instincts.
The pentagram upon his forehead represents man the microcosm.
The beard represents agelessness and timelessness.
The wings represent man’s spirituality.
The torch represents spiritual illumination.
The breasts represent reproductivity and the feminine aspect.
The shroud wrapped around the waist represents the hidden mysteries and the unknown.
The caduceus represents the positive and negative flow of energy within us.
The disc represents the sun and the solar system.
The disc is placed over the solar plexus which is the energy center of the body and from where energy is distributed.
The scales on the disc represent our evolution from water.
As to the arms and their positions: One pointed upward toward the waxing moon; the word SALVE means "like solvent, to make clear;" positive. Pointing toward the waxing moon represents the positive flow of energy outside of us. The other arm is pointed toward the waning moon and represents the negative flow of energy outside of us. COAGULA means to coagulate, which is to "condense, to make solid." The arms together: represents man’s work and toil in order to exist.
The Baphomet is not too far from where we are and not too far from where we are going to be. He often is referred to as The God of the Witches.
Eliphas Levi had an explanation of the word Baphomet cabalistically spelled backward, as three abbreviations
TEM.OHP.AB.
and Levi's rough Latin translation is:
TEMPLI OMINIUM HOMINUM PACIS ABBAS
Father of the Temple of Peace of all men.
He’s a beautiful thing, he is.
Love, Lady Mimi
