Thanks for replying and validating; yes, Takhli was considered a FOB originally; I retired with almost 23yrs as a SMSgt too and I consider that short stint as one of my most rewarding closest to the action as well; previously was a Morse Intercept Operator at Clark AB, RP but was retrained before any deployment to Vietnam. Bars do proliferate as bases grow, huh? When I was there they had a green ledger with pixes of girls in town to avoid; when you returned you could stand in line and get a free no sweat pill; did you work a 12 hr shift, 7 days? I heard later there was a huge buildup (dorms/hospitals,etc)that we gave all back to the Thai's later as we re always wont to do, right? I guess the later troops didn't have fights over positioning the two large fans on their floor or finding out who stole their mosquito netting - rolfing!
