Re: "Hot" Trains
They did occasionally run a special train with one or more "shutdown" cars for GM or Ford. Obviously, we did our best to keep them moving to destination with as little delay as possible. Our hottest train from Saginaw was the "DIXIE" called every night for 8:30 PM that went to Toledo B&O and then on to Cincinnati. He was supposed to be expedited, but truth be told, there were times when it was so congested that everything became "just another train" and you did the best you could. Often, the hottest train became the one whose crew was on the shortest time and you wanted to get them into the terminal before they died!! We often depended on power from inbound trains to be able to run outbound trains!
