Great responses! During my short stint on the GTW I put in some time working at the East Yard. GTW had a train which ran from Port Huron to Lang Yard near Toledo. 401 or 402 would stop at East Yard and set out and pick up and then south. On a Friday night bot brakemen were on the head end and the conductor was in the cab and had his lady-friend with him. shades were all drawn and caboose was locked from the inside.
On another occasion I was on the extra board and assigned to a job which worked up near the Chrysler highland Park plant. The regulars has a lot of time on the job. We were getting our work done and then we stopped for a break. Had some heated sweeet rolls and fresh brewed coffee. what a tasty treat. Thanks for posting. Sometimes I think back how nice it would be to ride in the cupola and enjoy a cup of coffee and smoke a pipe. Thanks for posting. Did the local run north of Remus?
