Rick.....
Here's what I posted on x-Roads:
Jackee and I watched the afternoon show.
It was really nice.
It was good !!!!!
Since we had seen these guys do partial shows before ....
And, since we'd seen George and Rick many times before ...
There was only one real surprise... as far as I'm concerdned.
It was that George's guitar was electrified....
I really liked it.
All of these guys are very demonstrative.
They don't just sing the songs.
Also, they each have their own ways to add a little extra to their singing parts.
They're very stylish.
Their blend is very unique ......
They sound more to me like a quartet than a trio.
There are and there have been some very popular country quartets.
I never listened to them all that much, but they all have their "power sounds" that they use in their songs.
These guys have one that is very effective.
All of this is and was very good.
I thought that their song selection was pretty good.
It was very enjoyable.
It was as good as, and as much fun as anything I could ever hope for.
So, what was missing?
My youth.
This was the missing ingredient.
It wasn't them that was lacking.....
It was me.
I'm afraid that I've gotten old ...
I never wanted to do it...but, I did.
But, also...
I belive that watching the show on our big screen TV had a great deal to do with it all.
Not being there at the show took a lot away from it all.
Rick mentioned this during the show.
Going to a live show is a whole different experience ....
than watching at home on your computer or TV.
Plus, for many of us... not being able to talk to these guys after the show was something I really missed.
The best solution to this problem ...is for me to get these guys booked here for a show.
I'm going to work on it...
You should too.
Call your local theater that has these kinds of shows and ask them to book these guys.
Rick.......
Here's what I'm going to add here....
I just watched some of the re-run......
Re-run?
Well, yes, of course I recorded it!
You know.........
In a day...it got even better....
I guess some of the spices needed a little time to blend together...
First, let me say...I think Jerry is super cool...
George and Rick could not have found a better partner...
A little over a year ago, I got to have dinner with these guys and I sat next to Jerry....
on purpose....
He's the kind of guy ... when you meet him, you think you've known him all your life....
Same is true of their bass player.... I sat next to him too.
George has a lot of great guitar embellishments for the songs.
Rick does the same thing vocally....
Rick and George's mics could have been a tad louder....
But, on their blend, it all sounded great.
But, I will tell you that I'm a great proponent of having just one mic.
Well... one for the vocals and another for the instruments.
I belive one mic makes it all much more....
POWERFULL !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd add one more thing to this group..........
a percussionist.
20+ years ago... Jackee was out of town for a meeting...
Joan Baez was doing a show in Lexington....
Well, I never cared much for her stuff......
She blew me away and I became a fan...
Mostly because of her percussionist.
Yep.
He added the zing that was needed to take her songs to a whole new level.
I know that George plays the bongos....
Having to drag around another instrument when you already have two....
But, bongoes would add just the amount of ....
Excitement ... I think might be the trick. Maybe their bass player could play bongoes on a few of the songs...and leave off the bass.
