You ain't the Lone Ranger on this one.
As long as Bob was alive.........
The Kingston Trio was still alive.
Now, they're both dead.
Which is plenty to cry about.
Yep, me too.
That video hit me pretty hard.
This must be why they have funerals.
A big chunk of my life has passed.
It's been a part of me since I was in grade school.
Very little is left of all of the things that made up my youth.
Everyone's dead, and everything is gone.
Sorry to be so depressing, but it's true and we all know it.
There may be a few exceptions for some of you, but as Walter said....That's the way it is."
I imagine that most of us now have two lives.
Make that 3.
The one we used to have and the one we've had to take the place of the one that's gone.
Oh....... I forgot...most of you have kids.
That changes everything.
Actually, I was going to say that the 3rd life is the one I have with Jackee ... and you can put your kids in that one, if you have them.
Actually, I just remembered...there's a 4th life. This is the one you have with your doctors. To stay sane... you keep your medical issues away from everything else. You pretend they aren't there.
For me, the Kingston Trio was like a vacation.
These guys were almost on permanent vacation.
They had their lives at home, and there was the road.
Any contacts that I had with them ... were in their world... not mine.
For me, all of this ended when Bob moved to Phoenix.
I don't remember when this was.
Maybe about 1992.
When Bob lived in Alpherata they had a lot of shows that I could go to. When he moved to Phoenix, there were very few, then there were none.
I never asked him about this, but I'm sure it was on purpose. So, he was never very far from home.
There was about a 10 year period where I was seeing these guys every couple of months. Often enough that there was some continuity to it.
The sum of it all carried over for a long time. These weren't memories yet, they were just things that happened not too long ago.
When Bob retired, that's when it all began to really become history. It was never the same after that.
I don't think Bob was ever the same after that either.
He wasn't any good at sitting on the sidelines.
Who is?
But, he was still part of it all.
Bob was as good as dead when he fired the guys.
That ended it all.
There should have been a funeral...
We had to wait for this week to have one.
Because, even though Bob had a life that was separate from the Trio, they were inseparable.
He was the Trio, and it was him.
In the end, he ####ed it all up.
Because, no matter how hard you try, you really can't separate the music from the guys... I can't.
Shit !!!!!!!!!
Max
Funny how things like that are.
