The real humiliation will be the family shunning them when they return. I don't think the children will be mistreated but there will be no invitations to come round for dinner, either. Archie and Lili won't have their cousins over to see their new rooms and play in the yard. Other than Charles, nobody is happy to have them back.

It does occur to me that there was nothing Charles could do to stop the Sussexes from relocating back to England so by appearing to somewhat support their return he is exercising some leverage over them. Withdrawing his support could cause opportunities to dry up even further if either of them should overstep. And we know who it will be who does just that.
