I do think Haakon and his family did everything they could to make Marius feel welcome, but once Ingrid and Sverre were born it was clear that they had higher status. Not that the palace staff were rude or abusive to him, but it was clear that they were treated as royals from birth and that he, even as the older brother, would never be their equal. Why did Marius go off the rails and his siblings seem normal? Maybe he was overindulged by Mette-Marit overcompensating for the disparity between him and his siblings. We know that she went to his apartment and cleaned it up before the police came, and that she called his alleged victims "to ask how they were". How many other times did she intervene? An earlier article about Marius and his troubles mentioned other run-ins with the police, drugs and that Marius lives separately from the family because he's "not allowed" on the royal compound. This is an awful mess. The worst part, to me, is that Marius's young life has derailed.
