To be fair (sort of) the letter doesn't state that his grandfather saw action in the Burma campaign, just in the 'Pacific campaign." But even that is wildly misleading as he wasn't involved in any fighting there I don't think.
The letter was word salad and a very foolish stunt IMHO.
