No way did he write that letter. He's not that articulate.

It wasn't written by a Brit. A Brit wouldn't refer to "both our nations" in a letter left at a monument in Staffordshire.

Not very secret, was it.

I think whoever writes their correspondence does a decent job, though it does read like every other royal speech and "tribute" that gets published.

Did Philip actually fight in a land battle in Burma? I don't think he did, but I could be wrong. In any event, I doubt Harry wrote the letter. It's too well-written.

No, Prince Philip didn't fight in the Battle of Burma. As is known he served in the Royal Navy during World War II and was involved in naval battles. His service did not include participation in the Burma campaign.

That's what I thought. IIRC he saw action mostly in the Mediterranean during WWII. Whoever wrote the letter--and it was definitely not Harry--didn't bother to fact-check .

Would have made more sense to pay tribute to Prince Philip on VE-Day but he was too busy sulking about losing his court case.

Twerk seems to be trying to do some character trait acquisition with this bizarre note. He will never, ever come close to even half the man his grandfather was.

I agree the VE celebrations would have been more logical but, as you say, Twerk was busy then.

I bet somebody mixed up Philip Mountbatten with Louis Mountbatten, who was created Viscount Mountbatten of Burma on 23 August 1946.

That had occurred to me as well. If Twerk did write the note, he revealed his ignorance in all its glory. If someone else wrote the thing, then they did Twerk no favors.

To be fair (sort of) the letter doesn't state that his grandfather saw action in the Burma campaign, just in the 'Pacific campaign." But even that is wildly misleading as he wasn't involved in any fighting there I don't think.

The letter was word salad and a very foolish stunt IMHO.

I checked wikipedia.

Philip served on ships in the Indian Ocean from Jan 1940 to Oct 1940.

Between the end of Oct 1940 to mid-Sep 1944, he saw action in the Mediterranean (with a trip to Spitsbergen thrown in).

From mid-Sept 1944, he was in the Indian and Pacific Oceans (but no mention of Burma) and returned to the UK on Jan 17, 1946.

So, most of the war was spent in the Mediterranean, bookended by shorter periods in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
