Looking at the photo again, it was taken from a hospital bed with a bolster behind her to keep her on her side and not allow her to roll over on her back. Going by the visible bruising she had left side damage. The photo was possibly taken just before discharge, when she was dressed and ready to go home. That would account for the jewelry and spaghetti straps. The car she was in was being driven by a 71 year-old woman, but there are no reports of injuries to that person.

I can believe that Virginia and the driver went home, thinking neither were injured. After a few hours, Virginia did not feel better and was feeling progressively worse. That much is believable. I take no joy in her injuries, but will wait a few days until I can say that she's not exaggerating the extent of her medical problems.
