I was explaining what Ds did, just last night. Because a batch of pasta sauce (meat sauce, usually with onions and mushrooms.) lasts for several meals for them, too, and I put it on the menu every 2 weeks per his request, and ddil won't eat meals repeated more than twice, or too often, and he doesn't have time to make certain meals if he's been working...I suggested making a double batch of sauce. Odd suggestion, right?
My thinking was that, if he made a lot of sauce, he could freeze it in 1-2 day portions. Then, when they want it, they just thaw what they want, and make pasta. (spaghetti, elbows or other shape for a baked pasta, etc.) He doesn't have to cook when he gets home late and it's on the menu, the mushrooms can be used before they go bad, and ddil won't be faced with a week's worth of pasta!
The funny thing was, that as he was making it, it kept 'growing!' He had to actually change it to a larger pot once, lol! So, we are thinking that there will be enough for this month, and next month...all the better! No cooking it, or shopping for the ingredients next month!
That's a great shortcut! And, as you say, it works for your food, and the dogs' food!
