I'm very worried about the supply chain of food. With facilities either not open, or not able to get their basic ingredients, a lot of items are only available until what's in the warehouses is gone.
After that, there's no telling.
Also, some items are stuck, such as something like a million lbs. of Swiss cheese in Pennsylvania currently. They normally go to restaurants, and for places that sell Cuban sandwiches.
And, it's going to come around to more of a problem soon. Because the 4th generation cheese making co. buys milk from certain producers, the producers are getting stuck with milk. They are saying that they will have to dump their milk, since the cheese makers can't use it right now.
Personally, I'd like to see the cheese guys donate that cheese across the country to assisted living homes, veterans homes, hospitals, food banks, etc. etc.
Likewise the milk.
Anyway, as they say, the supply chain is breaking.
I was so sad yesterday. An essential oil company that's south of here in Petaluma, wrote to tell us, their customers, that they are going out of business, effective immediately. This is a small company, but they had products that a lot of larger companies didn't.
They got in touch with their suppliers in Europe, especially places like France, and the suppliers said that they can't send them anything now, and probably not for months. Likewise the suppliers here in the U.S. They just couldn't wait, and are now closed. :-(
We're going to see a lot more of that. So, if there are specialty items that you like, want, and use, you will need to get them sooner than later, as budgets permit.
I know that back east, as the meat packing plants are closing, in some cases, big stores like Costco, Giant, and Wegman's, are limiting how much beef, pork, and chicken their customers can buy, per family.
It doesn't matter if it's meat, pie filling, spaghetti sauce, pasta, sewing needles, or trash bags, I think that people are going to be surprised, and unhappy, as more things are not replaced on shelves; at least for a while. :-(
Oh, I think that I forgot to mention unsulphured blackstrap molasses the other day. I got a couple of bottles...they come in packs of 2.
I don't like molasses, in general. We didn't grow up eating it as a sweetner. However, it's necessary when making brown sugar, which I use in certain cookies, cakes and other foods, and Dh likes brown sugar on his oatmeal, etc.
Also, small amounts are used in other things, including homemade bbq sauce.
Generally, it's like salt or pepper, and I never run out. It takes a while to use it. But, guess what I'm almost out of? Yep, blackstrap!
Because I wanted organic, I only had 2 real choices, Wholesome brand, and Plantation. Wholesome brand was about $12. a bottle, so $24. for the pair.
But, once again, I found a guy with just 1 left in stock, so he had marked it down to $7! I'll take them! :-)
Well, enough of that! I've got to test some things. Hopefully, I won't be cut off line. I was for several hours last night...sigh.
Have a great day!
