Canned Beets, or prepared fresh ones, 1-3 cans, sliced.
White Sugar, 3/4 Cup
Vinegar, ½ Cup
Cornstarch, 1 Tablespoon
Salt, small pinch
Combine the liquid from 1 can of sliced beets, with the sugar, vinegar, cornstarch, and salt.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil for a minute, to allow it to thicken.
Take it off of the burner, and add the well-drained, sliced beets from 1-3 cans to the liquid. Stir well, serve hot.
This refrigerates perfectly. Heat just the amount you want for a given meal.
Note: Don't worry about the amount of sugar. It gives the correct flavor, but you aren't drinking the liquid.
