This season has been a total catastrophe on a number of fronts. But I would say that what concerns me most is that this doesn't feel like a "building" or "growth" year. The way CBB is set up now, there's almost no such thing anymore. But beyond that, the young players aren't improving and the culture doesn't seem to exist.
It feels to me that Chris Acker has lost the locker room. I'm not insider enough to know how or why. But the copious careless turnovers, getting obliterated on the glass most nights, and extremely poor starts are indicative of a team that is not playing with the requisite level of effort to win games.
They actually have some pretty decent players. But none of it clicks. And barring one of our guards going unconscious from 3, there's not really a pathway for us to win games. They have some big men, but goodness, have they performed poorly. I mean, truly, it's hard to believe when watching these games.
I am hoping that Chris Acker is the right person for this program. I was encouraged during their brief win streak at how they'd improved from the early season struggles. He does scream and berate his players, but I've perceived that to be from a place of caring. That said, they don't seem to be responding to any of it.
I just don't think this is going in the right direction. The home gym is broken. They're by far the worst team in the league. Their NIL website is broken. It all seems disorganized, and without a silver lining.
