as to using one more schollie, if it were me, I'd look to a defensive stopper wing #1, the team will be built for defense and more quickness guarding and getting the best athlete should be #1. the only thing we lost is Tone's quickness, and granted his decision-making needed to improve, but he improved on D as the season went on
as to pt guard it's a bit of a gamble. Not convinced yet of Issa's quickness, our collective pt guard is unproven - not sure about Hart - not sure of his D1 speed. It all depends on what the staff has seen or thinks they can get our of Hart and Vernell the frosh.
Tsahonis can do some ball handling, as can AT, we'll do a lot of 'point forward' next year with Tsahonis, AT, and AJ - just a more modern look than what we were so used to with our pt guards in the past. Modern game, key is Tsahonis has to have it reinforced to not stop the ball - he can pass.
like a broken record, the #1 key to success is will and can AT shoot jumpers and 3s so that he is unguardable anywhere. I hope the coaches lift the 'don't shoot' rule that was in place with him last year, lift it in the in non-conference and let him work out any confidence issues with his shot - as I don't think he really does lack confidence in anything he attempts. He'll be an even bettter ball-handler next year, and yes he'll have some TOs offset buy nobody can guard him
as to transfers. I wouldn't go after a big. LT plays back to the basket. Stroud and Polynice are more facing basket players, but in today's game, that's ok and a plus. we won the title in 2021 with AT playing the post facing the bucket a LOT in conference. the idea of bang down low bigs being the key part of a team is not needed anymore. Granted LT gives a great option, but even next year I hope he can hit 10 foot shots more and a little more facing the basket.
but we'll have 3, maybe 4 guys that can play a variation of the post, and we don't have ot have a guy constantly anchored down low and can spread next year to let AJ, AT, & Tsahonis have room to go to the bucket
definitely lucky, basically bringing the core back, bought Beach another year to get a NIL collective together, hopefully something happens, cause it can't be solely happening at the direction of the AD. maybe the core guys got a couple grand each from NIL this year? just something to point to I think will help in the future.
pretty exciting possibility for next year, still tempered that this team finished SEVENTH, so reality check says some major learning curve required still on how to play basketball for these guys.
After 5/11/23 (today), players can still transfer but will have to sit out a year like the old days. Haven't seen or heard of any key MBB players who have made a last minute dash to the transfer portal. Assuming that is true, we should have a good team next year. One thing I'd like CDM to do is pick up a transfer backup for L. Traore. You could see at the end of last season that he was wearing down. Stroud and Polynice are tall enough to play center but their game is finesse and outside shooting. Unless you think Yan is an adequate backup for Lassina, they really could use one more player.
