The railroad crossed the river on a bridge. (The nearest ferry was at 120th St.) Most believe that the bridge was a swing bridge, and this is most likely the case. However, the C&WM predecessor, the Chicago and Michigan Lake Shore, applied to to the Muskegon County Commissioners to cross Muskegon River using a pair of jackknife drawbridges, so it's possible that they used that type of bridge to get across the Grand. It would be interesting to know for sure.
