Dick, Dave, gentlemen. I guess the Arizona sun is making me slow in responding. The Commissioner of Railroads annual report for 1872 is the only one I can find mentioning the Grand River bridge. The data given above is correct, and seems an appropriate way to cross the river.. When the MLS and the C&MLS built their respective lines between Holland and Muskegon, between 1869 and 1871, the two were competitors. The MLS had some half-hearted support from the Pennsylvania, while C&MLS had the active support of the Michigan Central's James F, Joy. When the C&WM (which had bought the C&MLS) acquired the MLS in 1881, the second line was redundant. The line through Grand Haven was much more desirable and the line through Nunica was torn up in 1881. GMM
