The problem for Tony was that Genie didn't want to stay, and then when she did, bridges had been burned at ABC. Show biz just is not fair to women. That's a fact. They are pushed aside at age 40, but the men go on as leading men. That has worked against Genie as ABC is looking ahead to younger talent. So, I can understand why they wanted her to be a part of their nostalgic anniversary show but not a regular on it.
It looks like they might have changed their opinion about her. I sure hope so. I still have not tuned in to see it. But I hope for her sake that they write a story for her that is worthy.
I don't profess to know the private stuff going on w/ Tony/Genie. I don't blame him for anything because he's an actor. suits and writers make the decisions. I know he had clout. I know he was treated differently than the young female and when she finally got to an equal stance contract wise.. a Female said no, you can't have vaca like Tony. What ever.. I do know she had children she wanted to raise and had started GH at 14, had troubles and didn't want that for her kids. Also had a husband. Tony had none of those things influencing his business Decisions. My point is, real people real issues. I'm glad no one can look back at my life from 14 on and examine my decisions. I do wonder what the "fighting" through the years was about. (nosey)
I'm glad she's back, I'm glad she insisted on a story. She was told by fans at meet/greet to do what was best for her, we'd understand if she said forget it. social media made a difference..she came back to a set, 2 stories (year worth) better clothes. I'll hang w/ the show as long as she does.
We really won't know the truth until Tony writes that book that he has talked about. I think he tried to hold on to the franchise, but at some point, he gave up on it. Maybe he was told that they would not commit to LnL because of the price tag. I certainly don't know. There are people who blame him, and that is not fair. He didn't make her career decisions, and he didn't make the contract decisions for ABC. He was happy to work with Jane or whomever...Robin christopher, Finola Hughes. After all, he was getting older and easing out of the leading man category.
I wonder what really ticked him off at the end? He became a very bitter man when he left. I guess we have seen the last of TG. I just can't watch GH without him. Sad.
For Laura. She's made that clear; that was the heart of the conflict, the entire point. In fact there use to be an interview from way back in the 80s where Genie teased that idea.
TBH the only people I've ever seen who think the baby could be Luke's are diehard L&L fans. Nobody else involved in the decision, and other fans I've encountered through the years, have ever thought it was a question.
Also, to be fair, during the time period in question Tony Geary didn't want to break up L&L and the Spencer family. It was the exact opposite. He was fighting to keep them together, and refused to play Luke against another love interest during Genie's leaves.
