Do Better

Kids that don't show up to the podium are a sad reflection of the coach. Not acceptable and such an embarrassment for their school. I hope that their ADs have a talking to the coaches because allowing that is not doing your job as a coach. Do better!

Some are seniors and the coach might not have a say.

There are limits to the amount of influence a coach may have, especially when the kid is done with wrestling.

If your still talking about this on monday you are seriously just a hater. Coach? May have an idea who wrote that.lol. There are about 3 coaches i can think of that may have posted that. just Trying to bash the head coach. Do better!

If you don’t have a serious health reason for not showing up to get your medal at Mat Classic, you should get taken away along with all team points.

1 team point for misconduct on the mat.

A bunch of team points for not showing up for an 8th place medal hours after your last match.

Not sure how that adds up to a good policy.

If the kid won the title he would be on the stand,

Step up coaches and hold them accountable, have the hard conversations!

If you can’t , you aren’t helping these kids become solid adults

You are enabling them to be disrespectful

This has nothing to do with any of the immature adult drama that goes on or any grudges or hate on anyone. It's simply called morals. As a coach all of our jobs are to teach these kids to be good humans. It's not only about the sport you coach. Everyone of the kids that chose to not stand on the podium have no respect for their coach or team. If they did they would have known better to not show up and stood up there even if they didn't want to. So yes. I stand by what I said. Do better.

I certainly prefer the podium fully represented by all the wrestlers, but the tournament format gets in the way sometimes.

It would be more feasible if they changed the format so all the medal matches went on at the same time. The delay between medal matches and presentation lends itself to vacancy on the podium.

The wait time is long. However, there were multiple finalists that didn't stand on the podium so for them that's not an excuse. Both in the boys and girls classifications. Very sad.

Not sure about all the individual reasons.

But if the goal is a full podium, leaving it to the coaches is going to be very hit or miss as things are right now..

First do a format change to remove the long wait and easy excuse.
Have all medal matches at the same time.

Then prior to the event, make the expectation clear to all coaches and ADs.

Without the format change, you’re just spinning your wheels.

It's a wrestling tournament. Awards are always done at the end. This isn't new. When you've worked hard as a coach or participant for the months leading up to State you shouldn't have an issue staying for the podium.

I think that the real issue is the ones that everyone knows chose not to stand because they lost. It's a shame that they even thought that that was ok.
