alternates

Does anyone know the final situation for alternates? Are they going to have a chance if anyone misses weight or is ill, or do they no longer have a chance since it is now wednesday?

That was discussed in the Zoom meeting. Alternates will not be allowed. If someone misses weight, does not pass skin check, etc...they will be replaced with a bye

What is the point of alternates if you won’t use them. I don’t understand this decision.

exactly. especially looking through the brackets and seeing all these "byes". obviously if kids cant make weight they shouldn't be there, give some of these alternates a chance. some of these districts are hard to get out of and alternates have placed high in the past.

no need for alternates, that would be all jv kids at best..with no regionals you now have ALL alternates wrestling at this point...

Our alternates would have done better than some kids that made it from weaker districts.

I just can't wrap my head around any concern for "Alternates" this year. The State just doubled the number of participants!

With the expansion of the tournament, the state has effectively rendered the concept of "Alternates" as "No longer Applicable".

Proponents of alternates, under any scenario, are being tone deaf to the new reality.

Perhaps there is language somewhere in a WIAA handbook section, or some district/league document that refers to "alternates". If so, it all just needs to go away to eliminate confusion.

The concern is why even have alternates if you’re not going to use them. Save everyone time and money.

We already made it so everyone goes to state. Letting the alternates in just packs the dome even more and makes it so almost literally everyone would be in.

It also wastes their time and money. If they knew they were going to make this decision they should have never had teams bring alternates.

The 16-man format needs to return. This is just a giant wad of kids. I couldn't imagine the congestion in the dome right now.
