State Alternates

How is everyone interpreting this language on the postseason SOPs.

*Alternates will only be entered into the tournament through Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 12pm
Alternates not entered by the deadline will not be issued floor passes.

My question is: Does this means districts have until the 18th to submit names or will the state decide who is wrestling by the 18th and not allow alternates to weigh in? I am confused and my AD is potentially saying my alternates will not be able to travel with the team to state.

I don't think it would make sense to not weigh in alternates, what if someone does not make weight?

We're being told that if not notified by Tuesday, alternates are out. They don't want to weigh in all, if a kid misses weight/injured/sick, then they will be pulled and it will be a bye. That's what our AD is saying.

Zoom meeting on Monday. Great question to ask. I understand it like Steve does. My problem with this is all these decisions that WIAA is making do not have the student athletes best interest as the priority. It is all about logistics and money, that is the priority. This is unbelievable. C'mon WIAA do the right thing.

What’s the point of having alternates? If you’re not even gonna let them participate? We don’t know if kids are gonna get hurt between the 18th and the 21st or if they’re going to get sick or if they’re going to miss weight. Thats what the alternates are for. Maybe don’t make a 32 man bracket if you don’t wanna weigh in all the alternates. Guess next year we should go back to regionals and the 16 man bracket.

Great question! It would be horrible to leave out the alternates if they have a chance to wrestle. When I was in high school I placed at state one year as an alternate. Proved everybody wrong! C'mon WIAA!!

Each classification will have 448 wrestlers and we aren’t going to allow the 84 extra alternates weigh in? Seems kinda stupid!

Whats stupid is to have all these kids work their butts off all season and say your an alternate for five days. Either tell them they are not at the tournaments, or let them weigh in and have a chance.

I am getting my state patch for my letterman's jacket whether I weigh in or not. I qualified for state, and that fact doesn't change, even if they don't weigh me in. The Man is trying to keep me down.

I feel like 3a needs alternates the most i mean it's 40 wrestlers in a 64 man bracket without them...

They dont need to fill up a 64 man brackets. Be glad they didn’t force you to fit in a 32 man brackets.
