A bit of excitement and light trash talk is fine, but some users go too far, while others become overly sensitive when comments are made about their child or situations like school changes. Somehow, it often circles back to blaming me for what others post, and I’m no longer interested in dealing with that. We’ll just have to see how things go from here.
Results are now handled entirely by Trackwrestling, so I no longer post them. Rankings are being managed by the WWN; last year I incorporated theirs into many of my pages, and this year I will likely rely on them exclusively—if rankings are posted at all.
My biggest concern at this point is whether I should keep the site running. There are ongoing technical demands and maintenance requirements, along with costs for both the message board and the website that now exceed any income. It’s difficult to think about losing 30 years of data, but maintaining a website in an era of constantly changing technology and formats has become more than I want to take on at this stage of my life. It was a passion for three decades, but my interests have shifted.
If someone has the technical ability and interest in maintaining the site and preserving the data, please feel free to contact me. Over the past two years, I’ve spoken with a couple of groups who expressed interest in taking over, but nothing materialized. This will be a transition year as I decide whether the site continues at all. I may ask for donations to help cover costs, although it may ultimately be simpler for me to close everything down.
We’ll see what level of interest remains within the wrestling community. If there is still a need, we can explore ways to maintain it. If not, the site may join the long list of wrestling websites that once existed but are now gone. If that happens, it will still have outlasted the vast majority of wrestling websites nationwide over the past 30 years. Most sites that launched between 1996 and 2015 have already disappeared. A few remain, but like any venture, websites have their time before interest shifts elsewhere—and I’m at peace with that.
I provided a service—results, rankings, and a forum—when it was needed. If that need no longer exists, then the site will likely fade away.
As General Douglas MacArthur famously said, “Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.” I believe this site will hold a special place in the memories of thousands of users who enjoyed it over the years.
