VW Golf 1.6 TDi CAYC 2009 - Overheating #

Posted by Mark Duhigg on October 28, 2019, 4:35 pm

Year of Manufacture: 2009
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.6 TDI CAYC

Good day All
I am loosing the will to live with this Golf and any suggestions welcome...

It is overheating the faster you go (130oC) slow down and temp gauge goes back to normal (90oC)
Radiator and hose's are lukewarm, coolant fan is running after a run them stops when idling.
Heater inside works well. No fault codes

We have replace the water pump, radiator and thermostat.Check the electric water pump and that is working.. It has been suggested the EGR cooler
but why would the radiator and Hose's be cold?
Is must be a flow problem but cant find it.

Like I say any suggestions welcome..
Cheers
Mark

I'd suggest double check the thermostat and its installed position. Are you confident it is actually opening?

Hello Mark,
Does this engine have the silly plastic thermostat housing.
The housing has a centre piece that the thermostat shaft pushes against,
But if the centre piece breaks off the thermostat has nothing to push against and cannot open.
Hth,
Ian.

Thanks for the suggestions

We have replace new pattern thermostat with a genuine one.
Still the same.
I am going to take off all hoses make sure they have not collapsed inside and then try a hose and try and see a blockage some where..

Cheers
Mark

Mark,
I would be looking closely or even replacing the radiator.
If its restricted, low flow would still allow enough cooling of an idling engine but not enough to cool a faster, hotter engine that needs a much greater flow of cooled water.
HTH Colin.

Thank you all for your replies..

Colin we did replace the radiator to no avail..
In fact replaced thermostat and water pump twice with genuine.
After mutual agreement with the customer we gave up with 199,000 miles and 10 years old wasn't worth going an further. Some you win some you don't.

Sorry haven't got back sooner as I have been a man short and trying to multi task...

Merry Xmas to all and sundrie
