Ford Fiesta 1.2 2009 - ABS fault code problem, B0004, B0072 & U2012 - Fixed #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.2cc

This originally came in from a garage failing the MOT with just the airbag w/l staying on, the garage fitted a new RCM module due to the original one having crash data stored and locked but they had problems with programming the new module and now the airbag w/l just flashes fast

I first scanned the car with the new module and fault codes where

B0004:13RCM=Driver Knee Bolster Deployment Control
Failure Type13=Circuit open

B0072:13RCM=Pass Seatbelt Pretensioner Deployment Control
Failure Type13=Circuit open.

U2012:87RCM=Car Config Parameters
Failure Type87=Missing Message

I also notice that the vehicle Vin didn't match the car?

I thought these faults were false due to the new module not being programmed correct as I'm having problems not being able to update my IDS to the latest version for some reason, so i took the car along to another local garage with IDS they also tried with no luck saying that there is a Vin mismatch and it would need a new BCM and IPC to put it right, so picked the car up and drove it back to my workshop, i noticed now that i had the abs w/l on as well as the airbag flashing.
Decided to have another look at the airbag system rather tell them its got to go to the dealers, and it turned out that the faults where true, the driver knee airbag had been replaced with a 2nd hand unit but wasn't connected and the passenger seatbelt pretensioner also 2nd hand had a broken connector so this car definitely had accident history that the owner wasn't aware of!
After sorting out both wiring problems the airbag light now goes out as normal, the only trouble now is the abs w/l on with the fault code U2101=Control Module Config Incompatible. Ive tried re programming the ABS module but still no luck.

This is now fixed, i took the car down to a mate at the main dealers and he had to reconfigure the whole car back to as built software to sort it out,,happy days!

Does anybody use this forum anymore!..dont see a lot of activity these days

I have noticed the same as you over some time now. Personally I am retired now for 2 years but I check in most days due to my continuing interest.

Could it be that the modern vehicle is now nearly bullet proof and rarely goes wrong or they are being farmed out to the main dealers due to the complexity of systems nowadays? Or a combination of both...

I suspect that is not the case, more that 'social media groups' seems the preferred option now, I guess more compatible with mobile phones ?

I find it disappointing as feel (in my opinion and from ones I have seen) that there is less in depth discussion to increase understanding, more 'silver bullet' type posts. also wonder if the historical information will be as good.

Will be interesting to see what others think.

I tend to agree with Aidan, even though the middle of the year is often quiet on the forums

Many that were with us from the start have retired or cutting back on some of the more technical jobs preferring to contract jobs out or send them to dealers, mainly because many jobs now require dealer tools, software updates and tech info direct from dealer sites

Our daily logs still show many using the site, the archives are popular (15 years of archives) and many just seeing whats going on

But probably the biggest thing by far as Aidan points out is social media ie: Facebook Groups, there are 100's if not 1000's of groups on just about every aspect of our trade. Great for a quick fix. I have viewed many any my concern is that all this valuable information is being shared with anyone who cares to join

Many of the groups have been created by employees of high profile companies for the sole purpose of gathering information for scan tool data and targeted marketing, even specialist software to hive relevant info FOR FREE (I know one company that does this)

I for one no longer frequent these groups as they can begin to take over your life, hours and hours every day checking your phone or PC

I hope UKAT can still be a place to share information and ask for help. Our trade is changing so quickly, god knows what we will be posting about over the next few years
