Mini Countryman Cooper D 2012 - Cold weather the electrics shut down #

Year of Manufacture *: 2012

In very cold weather the electrics shut down, rev counter will not work, fuel gauge goes from empty to full, Radio does not work, heater or heated window does not work.
we have already checked for weater ingress in all of the usual places but everything is dry

After a while the whole lot starts working again.

Any help is appreciated

Hello Stuart,
If as you say "In very cold weather", Have you tried testing the battery

As the various systems come back to life this could be an indication of the alternator recharging the battery to the correct level

Hi Yes Ian, we've tested the battery and it's has passed fine, we never get a flat battery symptom either?
In cold weather I mean under 0 degrees and freezing, typically now it's gone mild so it starts fine every morning! Currently its a guessing game!

Still struggling with this one....replaced the battery just to rule it out - still the same. Think we've found the cause of the problem, the alternator output voltage on a cold start morning fluctuates around 15V, all the vehicle electrics act up at this point, after a few mins the voltage comes down and everything starts to behave again. Replaced the alternator, still no improvement. Replace the module to control the glow plugs, still no improvement.
How does the battery management system work, what controls it, where is the unit, anyone go a wiring diagram?
Help please....

Had a 2011 Mini Countryman All 4 Diesel in so measured voltage after cold start.
14.6 volts.

Does the new battery on this need to be registered to the vehicle?

have you scanned all systems for high/low suppy voltage? , fault codes?
