We,re doing a timing belt on this car an my question is related to the timing belt tensioner. When the new belt, water pump guides etc have been replace its common practice to turn the engine a couple of times by hand first. sooo
my question is should the tensioner index (the point looking part) should that move about 5mm up and down when the engine is being rotated? all my marks line up afterwards when checked.
Or should the index stay pointing to the notch when the engine is being turned?
my marks are spot on both times but should it have that little bit of play? i thought it should but when doing it following E3 there is no movement.
Your opinions are grateful
Thank you

I always find that when turning the engine over by hand that the tensioner 'index' will move around a bit.
as long as the index is in the right position. and the timing marks all line up when the engine is back in its 'setting' position all will be ok.
