Jaguar S type 2.7 2006 - No start No auto transmission coms #

Year of Manufacture *: 2006
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.7

No start no crank situation? Gearbox fault in instrumentation!
Gearbox lever will not disengage from park!
No communincation to TCM on scan tool!
Can bypass the starter on the relay with ignition on & get the vehicle to start.
Cannot move hence stuck in park due to no comms with TCM.
NO FUSES BLOWN!
YES! Have checked the inertia cut off switch which has not tripped.

Any ideas guys

Hello Peter,
Most likely the J gate selector

Now its been a long time since I did one of these but you can over ride the lever by prizing it out of the consul and push the inhibitor switch to move it out of park and try to start it in neutral.
You can then drive the car.
But as I said its been a long time

Would a faulty J gate selector cause a no comms with gearbox ecm???

Hi Peter.

Did you get a wiring diagram?

The can wire's go via the j gate, but i would expect comms problems with other modules on the wrong side of the j gate.

Have you checked for live's and earth's?

If you still have the vehicle why not lift out the gear selector and press the mechanical button/tab that locks the lever in place and move it to neutral and see what happens.

Hello guys
I was wondering if you got to the bottom of this as I've got 2 s types in my workshop with the same fault including erratic starting and no comms with gearbox and instrument cluster and the P on the gearselector is flashing.

Have done that Ian

It does move but will not drive on road or shift up gears due to still no coms with TCM
Just have mechanical aspect of the transmission.
At least i can move it around the workshop.

Hi Peter.

On the tcm there are two lives,two earths, two can wires and a wire to the ecm. Have you load tested the live's and earths?

One of the live's is the brown/green from the front fuse box [f33 10a underbonnet]. They suffer from corroded wire's behind the front bumper if it goes that way.

Its easier just to check at the tcm [gearbox]

The other feed is f15 5a green/orange at the primary junction box. It also feeds the j gate.

If you need me to send you the wiring diagram just let me know.

Hi again guys, sorry to butt in with my problems but had a chance to look at mine today. Came back with faults U2521 MISSING MESSAGE FROM ABS. U2522 CAN MESSAGE TIMEOUT FROM TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. U2523 CAN MESSAGE TIMEOUT FROM ECM. U1900 CAN COMMUNICATION BUS FAULT PASSIVE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM.
My interpretation of these codes if im correct is that the abs signal may be open circuit which is dragging down the cam lines. Does this sound reasonable?
The customer is trying to source a j switch which are very common, but any other help would be most welcome before I dive in on monday

Glyn has said what to test. Plus ohms test the network.

Have you got a wiring diagram of the network?

Is your s type the same year range as peters as they do change on earlier models.
