Kia Sorento 2.5 2009 - 4 wheel drive system comes on and off #

Hello Gents,

Have a problem with this vehicle, customer complains that the 4 wheel drive system comes on and off during acceleration (and he's had the issue but not as bad from new), we have regularly changed the transfer lube with the recommended TOD oil and four new tyres fitted, no fault codes being logged, but if you pull the TCCS fuse the problem disappears. Any KIA tec's out there know if this is a common problem/issue?

Do these have the clutches in the transfer box ?

I seem to remember being here before and a new clutch kit sorted it.

Hi Mark,

I also recollect something about clutches in the transfer box, but my age is against me I just can't remember for the life of me.

As both Mark's have said they do suffer with clutch pack issues.
The front propshaft sliding joint seizes, also check the tyres are all the same make/size and rotating circumference (even that doesn't stop some Michelins from having different rolling resistances causing gratuitous 4wd operation)!!

Worth scoping the front and rear speed sensors too, as the front one can drop out causing 4wd all the time. However if this is just around 40-60mph and feels like it's shunting, as long as the tyres are even (no more than 2mm difference, with most tread on the rear) chances are it's the clutch pack sticking.
