Micra K12 1.0 2005 - Second hand steering motor fitted, code P1661 #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005 ( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.0i
Hi all. I replaced the steering motor on this Micra with a second hand unit. The immobiliser had a P1611 (immobilisr/ ECU discord) code in it afterwards and would not start. I left the car to do other jobs, when I got back the light was out. I cleared all faults and test dove the car. The immobiliser light comes back on after a couple of minutes. There are no faults in any system. My question is are these steering units coded to the car? The car drives normally just the light is on. Do i have to replace the motor with a new one? Thanks for looking and for any insight you may have. Regard. Fiachra.

Hi Fiachra
Always worth doing a forum search "Nissan Micra Steering"

I have done a few of these now, I have fitted Recon units that have been reset and work fine, They are virginised and learn the security code as soon as the ignition is turned on.
I have had a few where other garages have fitted used columns and they have immobilised.
My assumption now is that if a used column is fitted without disconnecting the battery then it powers up at a different time to the other systems on the can network and the immobiliser doesn't synch.
If the column is fitted whilst the battery is disconnected and everything powers up at the same time it synchronises and the vehicle starts.
I have had some brought in that have had used columns fitted that were "immobilised" and We have swapped the immobiliser chip from the original column to the replacement column and they have started and run ok.
I had one that started and ran OK but the immobiliser light stopped on......... So on that One, I disconnected the battery, left it off for a while, Reconnected it and the immobiliser light went off. phewwwww.
