Seat Leon BKD 2006 - Timing belt replacement issue #

Had a horrible experience with this car, routine cambelt change, on time not mileage,carried out in June this year, recovered to me in July, no tension on auto tensioner, belt slipped, oh bugger !!

Posting this as a warning, the stud that locates the auto tensioner is 8mm by 1,25 thread pitch for the tensioner, but 8mm by 1.0mm where it locates in cylinder head,that thread pitch is too fine and VAG have now revised that stud to 10mm by 1.25 thread pitch, so much more substantial, this repair cost over £1500 in parts and head repairs alone, be warned !!

Yes Jim, same issue, I knew I had read about this in the past but could not find the link, TPS are still currently supplying cambelt kits without this new modified stud being incorporated in the kit, or any explanation as to why they have changed the stud??

In my case I had the engine rebuilder install a helicoil in the head with threadlock, and have told customer I wont be doing next cambelt change, someone else can have that experience

Is the modified stud is any help as it wont fit? (Unless mounting thread re engineered to match.)
