Pagid Brakes #

Hi Guys

Has anyone else had any poor experiences recently with Pagid Brakes from Euro Car Parts??
Pretty sure something has changed with quality etc!
Had no problems in the past but over the last six months or so we seem to be having repeat brake disc judder problems and pads not lasting the usual mileages??
I have also purchased their Textar brand which comes in a different box BUT look absolutely identical in build quality and materials used, the only difference it seems is the printed name!!
I know they are both produced by TMD frictions but have a general price difference of approx. £10..

Hi Damian

Can't comment on ECP or Pagid but my understanding and experience on brake judder that occurs a short time after new discs is this:

Effected Discs after fitting have a slight run out due to defective mounting on the flange be it due corrosion, contamination or physical damage.

This run out will NOT cause any brake judder, the problem is that as the disc oscillates slightly on each revolution and it wipes the disc pad, This wears the disc in one area and results in DTV (Disc thickness variation.)

It is the resulting DTV that causes the judder you feel on the brake.

Our fix for this on the odd occasion it happens is to skim the effected disc in situ on the vehicle, this corrects any inaccuracies on the mounting and has always resulted in 100% fix

We almost always find it is only one disc effected which would tend to indicate a fault with the mounting rather that faulty discs.

Just my thoughts

Out of interest do you check run out on disc immediately after fitting ? do you find just one disc or both effected ?

Hi Damian,

We have used them for awhile with no issues but they are telling me lately we have had quite a few cars coming back because of pad squeal - so maybe the material has changed?

Thanks for the replies.
I'm pretty sure that there have been some changes to the quality and materials used lately so will think twice before fitting from now on!

My previous employer actually boycotted the Pagid brakes because we had repeated instances where after a couple hundred miles they would begin to squeal.
We complained to ECP who then sent down the pagid rep who kindly informed us that we were fitting them wrong? When we asked why it was then that we had no issue with any other brake manufacturer (which we fitted in exactly the same way) he had no sensible answers??
For the record we took great care when replacing brakes I.e thorough cleaning and lubrication of hub and carrier and also using the ECP recommended "cer-tec"

Hi guys
We have been using pagid for around 2 years and have had no problems. Have not noticed any change in quality. Ive had my eye on it since this thread appeared, but i cannot see any changes in quality. Before switching to pagid, we hsd endless trouble with apec, mintex, brake engineering discs, adl blue print. I have found pagid really good. I am hoping the quality has not changed, because there arnt many other options left.
I am finding ecp quite good for quality products, you have to specifically ask for premium quality , or they will send rubbish.
The odd waranty claim has been handled very well , including labour, so i have no complaints so far.

Interesting you say that, We have been use Apec for approx 5 yrs, mainly due to ease of availability (both our local factors supply them)

When they switched to Apec I was slightly skeptical but To be honest we have had virtually no complaints or problems with them, certainly less than 1%

Ha d a few squeak problems with Blue print so try not to use them.
