Audi A1 1.2 2012 - New steering pump fitted, code 00816 (G250) - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2012
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.2 fastback

Vehicle came into workshop with numerous dash lights on.Vehicle has been in accident and had new steering pump fitted.
air bag squib was damaged so replaced that and reset steering angle sensor.steering wheel controls work fine now.
problem still remains on steering code 00816 - Power Steering Sensor (G250): Open or Short to Plus.
I have checked wiring diagrams etc and saying it has a separate g250 sensor plugged in the pump/ecu. but no jack plug on ecu for it (3 pin)
so does it have a separate g250 sensor or am i on the wrong track.
VCDS says that there is no reference voltage too sensor (g250)
Can anyone shed any light on this little beauty

Ive done two of these, both from other garages after accident damage, new pump fitted, identical fault codes.
turned out, incorrect pump was fitted, they had been supplied via local factor and was made by TRW.
Fitted genuine pump, all sorted

There are at least two different manufacturers of these steering racks and they use a number of incompatible components. If steering rack or related components have been replaced, ensure that the replacement components are from the same manufacturer as the original one and are truly compatible; verify compatibility in parts catalogs; just because a component appears to fit does not mean it's compatible!

I just cannot comprehend a garage fitting a safety critical part on a two year old car,and buying from ECP ???, surely the warranty is still active so you have to use genuine parts,or am I being naive??

As previously stated above, I looked at two vehicles for other garages with same fault...both these had been accident damaged,both had been quoted to get the job.....
Tony in answer to your question, I believe people are using various firms that promise a "genuine quality product" at a cut down rate, it just doesnt live up to the billing, on the flipside , would you get any job if you quoted on main dealer supplied parts, I know I wouldnt.
I think the underlying issue is too many garages/mobile techs are devaluing the trade by charging too little/using cheap parts, the customer the gets the perception that these type of prices are the going rate for all repairs...hence when it comes to having to pay to have it correctly diagnosed/main dealer only part, it is then perceived as expensive and they are been ripped off.
Maybe this isnt the right place for this rant,but it seemed in context!!

Well I fitted a genuine part today and still the same. Fault code 00816.
It would appear that it is "looking" for a G250 sensor that it doesnt have. It has had an airbag deployment and a new squib fitted it does appear to be programmed ok.

What is the current coding for the epas? I thought there was an option to specify the location of sas as well as the vehicle type.

From memory I don't think that the G250 is a steering angle sensor. I think it is a steering rate sensor & are normally in the column.

I may be thinking of something completely different but hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to clarify.

Where would I find it i am using VCDS and delphi ds150 and G-Scan 2

Just looked a bit harder in to this and it is indeed the rotation rate sensor or 'swing sensor'.

On the parts system it states that the 3 pin pump connection must be sealed off if the vehicle has esp (no swing angle sensor).

From that I would say if the pump is coded for esp it will remove the g250 fault code.
