Inductive Pulse Crank Sensor voltage output? #

I am not sure whether this is the correct forum for this post or not(Peter please can you move it if required)

I am interested on others views in relation to inductive pulse Crank Sensor voltage outputs.

I had a Renault Trafic 1.9 F9Q 2003 with a non start fault, testing the crank sensor with Pico showed what looked like a good trace but with a peak voltage of around 1.5V

New sensor fitted and van starts fine, new sensor voltage output between 4 & 6 Volts on cranking.

This got me thinking of what is the minimum voltage output required for an ECU to accept the signal as good ? or does it vary from vehicle to vehicle.

It will depend on the vehicle and ECU make / model fitted. don't forget some will be fed a voltage from the ECU.

Hi Mark

Thanks for reply.

I had sort of assumed that it would depend on make of vehicle but was hoping there might be a rule of thumb figure.

Why are some sensors supplied a voltage? Is it just used as an integrity test by the ECU?

Can be for diagnostic reasons, but also it be used to help the internal processing ability of the ECU.
