Autodata - Going web based only #

Year of Manufacture *: From 2014

Recieved a letter the other day from Auto Data, informing me of their intention to go web only and get rid of disc and dongle.
Now if you offer a mobile service and dont work in a city or big town, then are you confident you will have a signal good enough to download what you need?
I bought this up with Auto Data who said if enough people shout loud enough they might look at it again.
I have registered my shout, so anyone else who this will effect please give them a call!

Hi Andrew

Few years back I was on the Vivid stand at Mechanex and Vivid and Autodata had a meeting about piracy of their products, the decision was taken to go totally online

Piracy and cracking of discs has just become so prolific that they are loosing hundreds of thousands of pounds a year in lost revenue. I am not sure that making DVD's just for mobile techs is going to happen, think they are giving you false hope

Companies are now cracking down on copyright breaches across all industries, as Dave Hill pointed out in a post, online links to FREE manufacturers info are disappearing with threats of heavy fines or imprisonment

I have spoken to a few mobile guys who say its not really a problem because they are usually at a customers house or another garage workshop for a connection

If we want to access it, then we are going to have to pay for it

Easy cure for Autodata to cut down on piracy and keep customers........ Charge the full fee for the first purchase thats fine. BUT DONT charge the full fee anually after that for updates!! chrage £250 a year for the updates,that would keep and bring a lot of garages on board. Just my thoughts, its not rocket science and would probably make them more money with the extra customers than they currently get now. GREED grrrrrrrr

I fully agree with you,maybe full fee for start,and some reasonable price reduction after the first year,should encourage more Garages to invest.

I think it is often miss-understood about Autodata (DVD and Online), E3Technical, AutoVista, Haynes Pro, etc you never actually own the software, you are paying an annual licence fee to access it, so just paying for updates is not an option. They are working much the same way as Manufacturers, you pay a subscription to access

This is why Autocom and many other diagnostic companies are working on Internet Based software, because no matter how sophisticated the DVD is, some nerd somewhere in the world will crack it
