Ford Focus C Max 2008 - Radio loosing code & Heated windows switching on #

Strange fault?

Cust complaint radio looses code when started and both heated front & rear screens switch on?
History; battery replaced recently. Read with IDS cleared battery voltage related codes from PCM, ICM and another I can't remember.

We have fitted another new correct Bosch battery, radio still loosing code but I haven't witnessed both screens coming on although my apprentice who's doing the job said they did switch on when he started it, no codes stored now. I will remove the radio in the morning and check feed when cranking but both screens turning on? surely these are not ambient temp controlled??

Just had one in similar today although it was a 2008 mondeo I noticed that the screens were turning on also with the ice/low temp warning snowflake..
Either it's normal or we've both got a similar fault !!

Evening David,

I've tried to google it to see if it's a feature but no joy, I will check in the vehicle manual in the morning, I did wonder if it was a temp related and the radio is the only problem...

Hello Rob, I've just googled it to, it would seem it's a feature on alot of late fords to put heated screen & mirrors on when temp is below 4c.

That would explain it in the workshop once door was shut them not coming on! I will check better tomorrow

Had problem with radio unit in 2010 focus model in that radio would come on a short while after locking car and flatten battery overnight.Problem was in radio unit and had to be replaced.When unit was replaced problem sorted.

Although there is no mention of this in the vehicle manual I am pretty sure the screens switch on when the temp falls below 40F (4C) the elderly owner did not own this last winter so we were chasing a red herring

The radio must be at fault as the clock is also displayed on the radio fascia and it keeps its time when the radio looses its code, new radio £367+vat

Check the fusebox on passenger side for signs of water

Hi Mick,

We didn't remove it but the top surface looked dry when checking the fuses etc., I did offer the chap a used radio for £120 fitted if he returns for this I will look further, looking at the wiring diag both window switches supplies and earths are from the GEM module and this has an outside temp sensor so quite likely the screens DO auto turn on below 4C. I will post again if it returns
