Although there is no mention of this in the vehicle manual I am pretty sure the screens switch on when the temp falls below 40F (4C) the elderly owner did not own this last winter so we were chasing a red herring

The radio must be at fault as the clock is also displayed on the radio fascia and it keeps its time when the radio looses its code, new radio £367+vat
