Ford Fiesta 1.4 2004 - EAC Fail #

Year of Manufacture *: 2004
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1400

This is apparently a common fault on Fiestas - Electronic Accelerator Control failure - but I can find no information in these archives.

Does anyone have any experience of the fault, possible common component failures etc.

There is a lot of info on the internet but mainly DIY forums with no deeper technical background.

It occurred once on my customer's Fiesta but when I tested the car it ran perfectly with no codes (Solus Ultra) and perfect throttle trace/response.

I've read plenty of posts about this fault not being easy to sort and almost impossible to fix especially as the fault can range from the throttle body to an ecu.

Maybe best to see if an ecu update would cure it but even this can cause other issues if you read through forum posts.

Hi Steve
There is a tsb on the problem. I will try to find it if you want.

The main thing it goes on about is to clean the connectors on the wiring.

The main one being the pcm connector. Which is a pain because it means removing the security bolt on the ecu. There is a special drill listed but i have not found a supplier.

It does mention a modified throttle body.

James Dillon wrote about it in one of his bulletins as well.

Throttle body faults can also be caused by coolant contamination to the engine harness connector that sits conveniently under the leaking thermostat housing.The tool reqd to aid removal of the pcm security bolt is actually a drill guide that allows a drill bit to sit squarely on the shear bolt.It is available from SPX tools .Part # 418-537.Costs around £10.

There is a TSB on this which includes a new wiring loom etc.
But there is also a re-calibration available with IDS which is where i would start if it has only happened the once.
