Skoda Octavia BXE 2007 Cam sensor fault, code 12295 (G40) - Fixed #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: BXE

Got a starting problem with this one, fault code being logged is 12295= Camshaft position sensor(G40) no signal/intermittant.
Garage have fitted a new OE sensor with no change, scoping the hall effect sensor when the engine does start it showed no signal output.
When i removed the new sensor to have a look it had a score mark across the top where it must have been hit by the cam so have asked them to order another unit to try. If i wanted to do a sensor test unplugged from the ecu can someone advise what size resistor i will need on pin 2 for the hall effect to work, its a 5volt system.

What scanner ? code 12295 is that correct.
G 40 code is common if you read when is ign. on. Does it disappear with the engine running.

Hi Kev,
I was getting 12295 with VCDS also a couple of glow plug errors and a no signal error also from the motor for intake manifold (12546). Up until now the engine has only started for me once so i thought i would jump on it and try and look at the cam sensor, but there is no signal?. Looking at group 051 block 2 camshaft speed is 0.

On this cam sensor testing does anyone know what readings i should have on pin 2 from the ecu with just the ign on and the sensor unplugged.

Hi Mark,
The 5volt supply and ground on pins 1 and 3 are ok but there is nothing showing on pin 2 with sensor connected or disconnected, i expected to see a reference voltage from the ecu for the hall effect to work but not sure if i am correct someone may tell me different.

Without looking too deep I would agree with you, what make and variant is the ECU?

Unplugged and ignition on

Term 1 (+) to Term 3 (-) 5v

Term 2 (+) to Term 3 (-) 5v reference

Term 2 (signal) to Term 3 (-) Should have your waveform

Does give an example of the waveform

Got back on it today, with it unplugged from the ecu and powered up i put a 10k resistor on pin 2 with the scope and got a good square wave cam signal. Found pin 2 cable had rotted internally where it bends and comes up to the n/s chassis.
