Vauxhall - Disintegrating oil filters #

Year of Manufacture *: any (2005)

Have posted on this before but seems like it is still happening.

Paper oil filters disintegrating with very brittle paper.

the part number on the old filter in this case appears to be CH10246ECO (which looks like a Framm number)

The oil didnt look particularly dirty and the service book seemed up to date...

So much for extended service intervals I guess

Some reasons ...

cheap filters

cheap low quality oils

service intervals to long

increased egr control , more particulates carried in the oil

cartridge filters not getting changed on services......"what you dont see" an all that

Hi Paul

I have seen this quite a few times, but only ever on Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 and 1.2, some have completely disintegrated.

The Mann .pdf link Paul posted...I do not really agree with as I have changed filters on these with Mann and have seen them 12 months later starting to beak up only having done 10,000 miles and 5w30 synthetic oil being used

My theory on this is that when the filter top is screwed back down it slightly crushes the filter, due to a design fault. The filter is then put under stress and over time start to break up and collapse in on itself

What finally finishes them off is running an engine flush, which takes all the paper filter debris all around the engine

we have had this happen on peugeots always seems to happen on cars that have gone way over time for a service ,they just crumble when you try to remove them

I have seen this many times, all of which were well over service mileage or missed a service completely .All cars which have been serviced on time by me & millers oils have been good .I would go for acid build up .
I guess we are looking for someone to paper over the cracks lol
