Audi A4 2.0 PD BLB 2006 - Noise from timing belt area - Fixed #

I had this one in recently for a minor repair , customer mentioned a noise from the timing belt area which i confimed was difficult to pin point exactly where the noise came from .
I removed top timing cover and found the timing belt moving from one side of the tensioner to the other .I previously fitted genuine VW/Audi timing belt kit & water pump , on inspection tensioner ,pump & ider look good so i'm tempted to go for the belt ?

Any thoughts would be great

Could be the belt. I fitted the same to a 2.0 petrol and a few months later it had a noise from the belt area. The waterpump was giving up and had play. Also noticed a consequential slight leak from behind the waterpump pulley. Not good considering it's genuine parts but TPS sent out a new pump FOC. We still had to pay for a belt and our time.

Hi John

I have looked at the clip quite a few times, I would say it's not a guide, tensioner or pump fault, the variation seems to be coming from the left pulley. I would be inclined to get both pulleys off and run them up on a lathe to check how true they run, may be a slight distrotion or damage

Looks to me as though the belt is not wide enough

, I don't remember that ammount of space between the belt and edges of the pulleys on the ones I have done?

Thanks for the replies Peter & Tony , the most obvious thing to me is it was OK before belt kit & pump installed so thinking a bad belt , poorly made belt suspect .Trying to get the customer to get it in to inspect it .Good point on the pulleys though peter , will get them run up and check them out .

blb-common fault oil pump drive-that is where the noise is coming from.

Changed timing belt cured the run out problem so belt must have been cut wrong . Noise from engine wasn't there after belt fitted but will monitor it in regards to oil pump drive noise
