Range Rover Vogue V8 Diesel 2007 - Alternator replacement - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: v8 diesel

Have this in today, non charging, would of liked to get to rear of alternator to check output however cant even see the back of it!, looks like complete nightmare, maybe even eng out! autodata says 2.2hrs, don't think so, anyone actually done one some advice would be apprieciated

Hello Keith,
The alternator is water cooled & you can't get to the back of it. It's not too bad to change, just need to remove viscous fan, radiator cowling etc. It is bolted in from the front & sealed using an "o" ring, so you'll need to give it a wiggle/lever. Genuine unit is approx £700.

Hi

Its as Andrew says, it is coolant cooled & this model uses special coolant PDA500300. Also be aware that all faults should be cleared from engine ecu before starting engine, after alternator replaced,
We would charge 3 - 3.5 hours

The Alternator on the TDV8 isn't water cooled, I changed one on Saturday. Not a nice job, throw away the 2 hrs book time. you have to take so much off, coolant drain, top hoses, intercooler hoses, top fan shroud, fan, belt, lower covers, coolant pipes in front of it, turbo plastic pipe (which has a habit of breaking)in front of it, then remove the starter cable, then pull alternator forward to just get in to release cables in situ, accessible by unbolting & removing the expansion bottle. You can't get to test them at all as they are blocked by a big steel mounting bracket.
If it's the first one you have done, allow the morning!!

spot on Steve, exactly as you described, complete b,stard, not happy about the way the dealer smugly quoted 1.9hrs, suppose its ok if you charge £120 per hour, took as you said about 4.5hrs, but the tech that fitted it may run a mile for the next one!thanks for the replies, indecently but petrol V8 has water cooled system.

Sorry, I didn't see that it was a TDv8,neither did Pete I assume. Probably my fault for not reading the posts' title, (or was the modification of the post to say it was diesel).

As Andrew says hands up I didn't see the diesel bit , apologies if this caused a problem. Good job Steve's eye sight is better than mine !!
