Hi Glyn. We have never fitted one of these Starter motors, But We Have Checked one, ( well as far as possible, We put the car on the ramp and found the Main battery cable and the solenoid wire, We checked both wires for voltage when the key was turned to the start position and both where ok, So we Advised the customer that it either had a faulty Starter motor OR Faulty connections on the starter motor which we couldn't get to without a strip down job. We Priced the Job up by Our Local Mercedes main Dealer and they Estimated £800.00 Labour and £250.00 For the New starter motor , ( + vat ) Which if it can be done in 4 hours is a bit of a rip off, ( £200.00 per hour ) The Fault on the car went away and it was starting ok for about 6 months and then failed again and the customer then took it to the Dealer, When the Job was done, I think that the Bill was in the Region of £2.100.00 ( Steve Humphries may correct me if I got it wrong ) In fact I think that they charged the customer £300.00 to tell her that the Starter motor was faulty, And a customer last week got charged £200.00 to tell him that His Alternator was faulty. ( I think that it may be the Dealer that is faulty ).
