I've had yet another Landrover that I couldn't communicate with today, so I rang Autodiagnos to try and sort out what was going on! It would appear that the new multilead that was supplied in my kit is causing communication problems on older Landrovers so Autodiagnos are sending me the old dedicated Landrover cable to overcome this problem. I asked about the apparent missing ABS fault codes from my Freelander and was told that this appears to be an inherent fault with the Landrover ABS ECU's. I'm told that the ECU doesn't seem to log front wheel speed sensor DTC's but will still bring the light on. I'm also told that Landrovers own diagnostic machine (testbook?) has the same problem with these codes. Autodiagnos suggest disconnecting a rear wheel speed senor then driving the vehicle, recheck codes to see if it posts this fault, reconnect, clear codes and road test. If the light comes on again, you can assume that a front sensor is at fault and carry out the appropriate tests to confirm. Apparently the HDC system can occasionally chuck up spurious faults that may not post a code. Simply clear (not existent) codes and road test to make sure all is well. Well.... as they say, the proof is in the eating! Round one to AutoDiagnos :-)
