Hi Guys, Firstly, thanks for all the input to my post. The problem was a faulty new distributor which was fitted by landrover specialists. The thing that threw me was that we had obviously cured the original problem but a similar problem had been created with the new distributor. It would appear that the distributor had a mind of its own sending pulses where and when it felt like it, (it wasn't the rotar arm or cap). The irony of it is that it didnt need a distributor and it now runs fine back on the original. Ah well another left hook I should know by now never to assume. Thanks again Frank Moores.
