Asfor what you are saying TOny - Today I'd decided that that must be the way to go.. I just wasn.t sure it could be done till what youve said.
This model is carb so it doesnt have the em ecu (pin 13 and all that) so finding and dealing with the 5AS unit *should* do it.. if I can get the right wires without igniting anything!!
A 'new' unit is £240. plus vat - he didnt pay that much for the car. You're quite right about the CDL.. it does have it - but it dont work!! So thats no loss.
I'll be back on it first thing tomorrow.. so I'll let you know what happens....
