Land Rover Freelander 1997 - Head gasket replace - Bolt lengths ? Archived Message

I am replacing a head gasket on this car. When the head went for testing/skimming I checked the bolt length using autodatas method.
"Screw bolts into engine finger tight without head and measure from block face to bottom of bolt head should be below 97mm well"
One bolt is at 100mm(even with a new bolt)some are as low as 60mm do I need a special shim?it feels like the 100mm bolt has bottomed out and the 60mm bolts are at the ends of the threads.
Have I missed something or is autodata wrong I checked the depth of the bolt hole in the head (97mm again)so it would rely on gasket thickness
    to seal.Any Ideas??

    Thanks.
