    Hi Stuart, extra fuel will not cause an increase in rpm. It has to be caused by extra air. I would suggest physically checking the throttle butterflies, they are sometimes fitted with a soldered valve, (the name of which escapes me), these can become detached and will give the symptoms that you describe.
