    Hi Eamonn

    If this high KV is happening to all cylinders on a regular basis then it must be something common to all these cylinders.

    If you have ruled out all possibilites of a high resistance in the secondary then I would look to a fuelling issue, as Steve points out a weak mixture will lead to a difficulty in ionizing the plug gap and a high KV. What are the emission readings like, and also what is the spark line doing. If you could post a waveform pic that would be a help.

    A great video / book package is available from AES wave on combustion through the eyes of a scope, the presentation is a bit flat but the content is great.
