Hi Clive, They should illuminate brightly normally, & then dim with the lights on (for night driving). Check for a bad earth from the shift unit. The earth is located at the rear of the drivers seat, underneath it, next to the beCM. Access it from the rear drivers side footwell, with the seat right forward, should be about centre of seat position. HTH Regards Steve
